Visit the world-famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, located in Piazza del Duomo next to the 11th-century Cathedral and the Baptistery. The Tower is the third oldest structure in Piazza del Duomo after the cathedral and the baptistery. The construction of the tower started in 1172 and took place in three stages over a span of 199 years. In 1987, the tower was declared part of the Piazza del Duomo UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Whilst initially planned to be a vertical structure, the tower started to lean during construction. Here you can climb the tower and wander the nearby cathedral and square for views of the most famous and photographed building of all time.
