In this post, we’ve got the lowdown on how to spend 24 hours in Byron Bay and how to make the most of your time there, including our top picks for eateries and adventures.
Start the day with a sunrise walk to Cape Byron Lighthouse
Wakey wakey, it’s time to get your body moving and take a hike to catch the sunrise. This 3.7km trail will take you 1-2 hours there and back, depending on how long you spend getting those sunrise shots for the ‘gram at the Lighthouse itself. Guaranteed a front-row seat to spectacular views over the Tasman Sea, this sunrise experience is one that’s well worth getting out of bed for at Australia’s most easterly point. Give yourself a solid 30-45 minutes to reach the lighthouse, before the sun is due to rise, to scout the best spot and enjoy watching as the colours of the sky change.
Get breakfast at Combi Byron Bay
You’ve worked up an appetite and it’s not even 8 am yet. Time for breakfast! Health-packed smoothies, fruity muffins, acai bowls, smoothie bowls; whatever your vibe, there’s something for you to choose from at Combi Byron Bay, complete with an edible flower on top. The perfect way to start the day and add some exotic hipster feels to your Insta feed and stories.
Fill your morning with land, sky or ocean adventure
After breakfast, it’s time to explore! There are a few options for activities, but our favourites include Kayaking with dolphins, skydiving or a turtle snorkelling adventure. Maybe just let that breakfast settle before jumping out of a plane though…
Tuck into a healthy (and instagrammable) lunch at Folk Byron Bay
It’s lunchtime! Chances are you’ve got windswept hair, salty skin or Adrenalin filled veins; but wherever your morning adventures took you, surely you’ve worked up an appetite? Head for lunch at our favourite spot in this lush seaside paradise – Folk Byron Bay – home to the famous Nourish Bowl and Vegan Burrito, you’ll have the chance to get treat your body to nutrient-filled dishes to recharge, ready for the afternoon.
Get your culture-fill with afternoon strolls
Slow down the pace and take a walk around; peruse the rad little boutiques and art galleries located in Fletcher Street, take a walk on Main Beach or head to The Pass beach for stunning views of white sand and turquoise waters. If you’re looking for a little more action, hire a surfboard if the waves are cranking or hire a pushbike and cruise the streets. Or why not head into the sky to see Byron Bay from a unique perspective – a hot air balloon ride – and experience golden hour as you drift through the Aussie sky.
Watch the sunset at Little Wategos
Little Wategos is the best place to watch the sunset or enjoy the sunset colours in Byron Bay. Settle down in this little bay, located at Cape Byron, with a blanket and a few bevvies for stunning views of the sunset and the chance to see the colours of dusk thrown across the sky.
Head into town for a bite to eat & live music
Head to Fletcher Street for dinner, ice cream & live music. The area is a hive of activity in the evening so stroll around and follow your nose and your ears! Hit Miss Margarita if you like vegetarian food or Il Buco Cafe & Pizzeria for something a little more casual. If live music sounds like your jam, head to The Northern or Byron Bay Brewery.
