How Every Wild Kiwi Booking Helps Support Pest Control in New Zealand
By Ryan Brown published on 10 June 2026
New Zealand is wild in the best way.
Native forests, mountain valleys, alpine lakes, quiet beaches, birds you will not find anywhere else on Earth. It is the kind of place that makes people want to get outside, look around properly and feel part of something bigger.
But keeping New Zealand wild takes work.
That is why Wild Kiwi is now donating $1 from every tour booking to support pest control in New Zealand.
It is a small amount from each booking, but it goes towards something that really matters: helping protect native wildlife, native forests and the places our guests come here to experience.

Why pest control matters in New Zealand
New Zealand’s native species evolved without many of the predators found in other parts of the world.
When pests like rats, stoats and possums were introduced, they had a huge impact on native birds, insects, reptiles and forests. They eat eggs, chicks and adult birds. They damage or completely destroy native flora. They make it harder for species like kiwi and other native birds to survive in the wild. And are a huge cause of endangering or even the extinction of certain bird species.
So when people talk about pest control in New Zealand, it is not just about removing pests. It is about giving native wildlife a better chance.
It helps forests recover. It helps birds return. It helps protect the natural environment that makes Aotearoa so special.

A small step with a real purpose
We do not see this as something to shout about simply to shout. Yet, sustainability is a core part of our tours and business.
This is simply another practical way we can give back to the country we are lucky enough to explore every day.
Every Wild Kiwi booking will now contribute $1 towards pest control efforts in New Zealand. That means each trip helps support the wider work being done to protect native ecosystems and move towards a healthier future for New Zealand’s wild places.
It is not the whole answer. But it is a step in the right direction.

Building on our work with Rotorua Canopy Tours
This new programme also builds on conservation work we already support through Rotorua Canopy Tours.
Rotorua Canopy Tours is not just an epic forest zipline experience. Their team does important conservation work in Rotorua’s native forest, including pest control and habitat protection to help native species return and thrive.
Wild Kiwi guests visit Rotorua Canopy Tours on selected trips and get to learn about this important pest control initiative while experiencing ancient and native forest. Our own team and guides also occasionally head out with their crew to help with conservation work on the ground, like laying traps.
It is hands-on, practical work. Not always glamorous. Definitely important.
For us, it is a reminder that travel can be more than just passing through a place. Done right, it can help support the people and projects working hard to protect it.

Looking after the places we explore
Our trips are built around the best of New Zealand: national parks, native forests, lakes, mountains, beaches and those little moments you only get when you slow down and actually experience a place.
Those places deserve care.
By supporting pest control, we are helping protect the landscapes and wildlife that make New Zealand such an unforgettable place to travel.
Because if we want future travellers to hear native birds in the forest, walk through healthy bush and experience the wild side of Aotearoa, then we all have a part to play.
This is one of ours.
